When this behavior becomes your habit, it can affect your relationships, personal life, and every area of your life, and this often has a negative impact. So that’s why you must recognize the patterns and start addressing them with effective steps to become a better self, and here we will look into steps for how to stop being arrogant and start working on yourself as you want to become.

Being arrogant is like when some people start thinking about or becoming self-centered towards their abilities and past achievements, and for other people, they start looking lower. They start developing the mindset that I am superior to other people, and that’s why they start mocking and insulting people who do not match their views. They never get ready to listen to what others are saying, and that’s why arrogant people never understand or share their feelings and ignore their mistakes and flaws. And under some conditions, they become Control freaks, and all their behaviors start putting others away as a result of negative impacts on relationships and professional life and totally shut down individual growth. This all happens because they never accept other perspectives and never reflect on their mistakes.

We all already talked about arrogant people who always try to down others and think I am superior to others, but in the confidence case, it’s really different. You will see confident people are grounded people; they always stay open to feedback and other opinions and are willing to learn, no matter where they come from. Overcoming it always starts with self-reflection and an adopting humility approach. Here are some steps you can take to stop being arrogant: 

Know the reason

Stop being arrogant; start when you accept and admit your current behaviors, and this requires your self-awareness and honest approach. You can start with where you are based on your current behavior patterns and ask questions. For example, in this situation, I am looking for reasons why I am right, or why I am not allowing other opinions, and so on. When you ask questions, you get some answers, and this can be the foundation of your change because now you have reflections in your life to reflect on, and here the life magic happens. 

Seek Help

No matter how much you know the topic and are trying to reflect on your behavior, there will always be something you cannot see that can be your blindspot, and here you can connect with your trusted friends, family, or colleagues and ask for feedback. Because sometimes, when we are in our autopilot mode and habit zone, we cannot easily see our negative reflection, other observations can help you and can introduce your blind spot in your behavior. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable, but growth always comes when you go outside your comfort zone. Whatever comes as feedback, look at it as an opportunity for your improvement and work on it.

Arrogant people always try to dominate conversation; they always talk much and listen low. So here, you have to divert your focus from talking too much to listening. Just try to be in the present. Do not try to keep any future-outcome responses in mind when you are listing. Just listen. When you do this, it shows your respect for others and also helps you gain new perspective on how others think and do things. 

Adopt a Humble Attitude

Adopt a humble attitude towards others and understand that everyone has different views and values about their life. No one is superior or inferior; each individual carries their own knowledge and experience, and according to that, they react and do things in their life. When you start accepting others differences and become open to learning, you can easily reduce arrogance.

Your arrogance makes you believe that you no longer need to learn anything from others; you already know. When you get into this stage, it can totally ruin your personal growth. but when you stay open toward learning, no matter where the lesson, knowledge, and experience come from. Believe me, everyone you meet in your daily activities, no matter their status or background, believes me, they have something for you to teach you. So that’s the reason you should adopt a curious mindset in your every conversation and approach with others.

Your Body Language and Tone

Arrogant people are not just about your words; they also come through your body language and tone. Always stay aware of how you carry yourself in front of others. Is there any posture, facial expression, or tone of your voice that makes you arrogant. Sometimes we do a lot of things unconsciously. That’s the reason you should look into it. Believe it or not, most of the interactions happen through nonverbal cues, and when you work on them with a positive attitude, you can easily stop being arrogant if something goes wrong.  

Your Life Values

Your values can be based on what you want to become. What kind of life do you want? and so on. Take your time to reflect on your values and needs, create your behavior around those that reflect your values, and share it with others. This way, you let them know what you want and why you are doing it, and when something goes wrong in the process, they can reflect on why that happened, and later you can also explain. Arrogant people do not like to share, and when you build your lifestyle around your values and follow kindness, respect, or humility, all of these behaviors in your life can totally block your arrogant part of your life.
